Sold - Touring Amp Rack Flight Case #2 - £120

Another day, another flight case and one of the three similar "tall" rack flight cases coming up for sale. Much like the others, it would be ideally suited to housing lighting dimmer racks, power distribution panels or audio amplifiers.

Rack flight case - dimmer racks or audio amplifiers?
The dimensions are; 95 cm x 52 cm x 66 cm, which is a substantial size, do bear in mind that this is quite a large item to fit in a car and will weigh a lot once fully loaded.

Rack flight case - heavy duty ply construction

The case is constructed from heavy duty ply, with a dark chocolate brown colour, textured finish, on the outside and a glossy Formica finish on the inside.
It has 8 large recessed industrial grade butterfly catches, 2 spring loaded recessed flip handles, heavy duty ball corners, wheel boards with 8 x 100mm castors and industry standard non-marking castors.

Rack flight case for sale - with heavy duty castors

Both the front and rear covers can be removed, the rear cover is fitted with castors in addition to the base. This has the advantage that the unit can be moved around on stage in its normal orientation, but also be moved safely "on its back" whilst in transit. It is so robust that you can place additional items on the case and use it as handy trolley for your load ins and outs.
Rack strips are fitted to both the front and rear sections.

Rack flight case - both front and rear covers removable

There may be some light surface patination and bits of wear and tear, but everything works as it should.

In addition an IEC connector power distribution and conditioning system is installed along with a rack drawer and, wait for it, a cassette recorder, yay!

Rack flight case - draw included

They are a couple of stencilled corporate branding logos, there is a tour label on the top.

Rack flight case for sale  - built in power distributor

This type of heavy duty road rack style flight case would cost from £250 upwards new. I have priced it at £120 for a speedy sale, the castors alone would cost around this much.

Sold - Manfrotto Wind Up Lighting Stands Case - £69

Here's another road-show favourite from back in the day and in my humble opinion is the safest way to transport a pair of heavy duty wind up stands. It is much easier to wheel into the venue than something in a bag or loose. Your precious equipment is going to last a lot longer and your hard earned earnings go a lot further with this flight case. So, let's get down to specifics.

Flight case - equipment will last longer

The dimensions are; 183 cm x 39 cm x 33 cm, a very generous size, but do bear in mind that this is going to be too large to fit in a car and when packed will be quite a weight.

The flight case is constructed from ply, covered in a satin black, plastic veneer. The hinged lid is secured by 2 large, recessed, industrial grade butterfly catches, complemented by 2 spring loaded recessed flip handles, heavy duty corners and 4 x 100mm castors with blue rubber non-marking wheels.

There are a couple of ply divider/supports to keep a pair of Manfrotto wind up lighting stands in place whilst in transit. They can be easily removed should they not suit your purposes.

Flight case - plywood dividers to support wind-up lighting stands

There is some minor surface patination of the metal parts, and bits of wear and tear, but everything still works properly.

It was originally owned by Promuseast and still has the odd stencilled logo or two and the original tour label.

Flight case - suits Manfrotto wind up lighting stands

This type of heavy duty road trunk style flight case would cost from £150 upwards new. I have priced this at £69 for a speedy sale, the castors alone would cost around £80.

I can arrange personal delivery for the following cost:
  • Within the M25 - No charge
  • 50 miles from London (e.g. Brighton) - £20
  • 100 miles from London (e.g. Coventry) - £30
  • 200 miles from London (e.g. Sheffield) - £60

Large road trunk -  plenty of room to carry all manner of bits and bobs

The flight case is constructed from ply, covered in a satin grey, plastic, veneer. The hinged lid is secured by 2 large, recessed, industrial grade butterfly catches, complemented by 4 spring loaded recessed flip handles, heavy duty corners and 4 x 100mm castors with black non-marking wheels.

Continuing on the flight case theme, this will be the first of at least three similar "tall" rack flight cases on offer. This particular case is the most heavy duty of the three and would be ideally suited to housing lighting dimmer racks, power distribution panels  or audio amplifiers.
The dimensions are; 97 cm x 52 cm x 69 cm, which is a substantial size, do bear in mind that this is quite a large item to fit in a car and will weigh a lot once fully loaded.

Sold - Extra Large Road Trunk Flight Case - £99

It has been a while since I have listed any new flight cases, but it is now very much the time to make up for that, there will be plenty listed over the next week. First up is this extra large flight case, originally designed for a giant video projector, but re-purposed in more recent years for carrying just about anything; from plasma screens, to rope and post barrier systems and even heavy duty mains distribution cables.

Extra large road trunk - carry just about anything

The dimensions are; 136 cm x 66 cm x 40 cm, a very generous size, but do bear in mind that this is going to be quite a squeeze to fit in a car and when packed will be quite a weight.

The hinged lid is secured by 3 large, recessed, industrial grade butterfly catches, complemented by 4 spring loaded recessed flip handles, heavy duty corners and 4 x 100mm castors with non-marking wheels.

There is some foam lining remaining from their original purpose, obviously this can be removed to make extra space for cables, etc.

Sold - Sennheiser VHF Tie Clip Radio Microphone 2 of 2 - £69

So this the second of two VHF radio microphone kits I have to clear. Some might regard these items as being somewhat archaic, but Sennheiser are the Rolls Royce of microphone manufacturers and even the oldest and most budget orientated models will perform better than a great deal of inexpensive modern equipment from certain parts of the World.

These are VHF units and utilise shared frequencies that aren't subject to any of the recent re-allocation of the radio spectrum and are unlikely to be sold off for mobile use in the foreseeable future. This unit can be switched to work on either of two frequencies, in this instance; 173.800 or 174.100 Mhz.

VHF radio mic kit - this set can operate on 173.800 or 174.100 Mhz

There is an On/Off switch on the transmitter and an attenuator that will drop the signal going to the pre-amp to enable the unit to be used with high level signals, such as acoustic musical instruments. I recall seeing these used successfully with brass and woodwind instruments. It is powered by a 9 Volt PP3 battery, with a good alkaline one it will give around 6 hours of continuous use.

The transmitter antenna is captive and can't be removed, so it's one less connection to break or get lost. The tie clip (lavalier) microphone is detachable and uses a Lemo connector, you can find out more about Lemo connectors for radio microphones here.

The receiver unit has meters to show received RF (radio) and AF (audio) levels, which of the two antennae are active and that the unit is receiving power. Squelch is adjustable by a front mounted pot. Power is supplied by a separate "wall wart" type unit, it is conceivable that you could also power the receiver from a battery supply or vehicle "cigarette lighter" socket for location recording and film work (adapters not supplied).
There are output jacks on the back panel for balanced XLR fixed microphone level or 1/4" jack with a variable line level adjusted by a trim pot.

Two of these units can be locked together and will take up a single unit of rack space, I should be able to find you a suitable tray if this option is of interest to you.

VHF radio mic kit - just £69 for the entire kit including flight case

As there is now so much competition from (in my opinion) cheap inferior equipment from the Far East I have priced these modestly to sell at just £69 for the entire kit, which includes a lightweight flight case. Note that unlike similar systems at this price point found on eBay, this is a true diversity system with two aerials and receiver circuits to guarantee the best possible reception. The aerials can be extended to further improve reception, if you are going to be some distance from a stage or want to locate the receiver inside a rack or shielded control room. If you can find a better deal, drop me a line via the contact page and I will do my best to match it.

It will be supplied in a small lightweight flight case, with padded foam cut outs for the receiver, transmitter, power supply and a couple of batteries. The original hard copy operator's manual will also be included.

Carriage by courier is now included in the price.

Sold - Sennheiser VHF Tie Clip Radio Microphone 1 of 2 - £69

Continuing the ongoing rationalisation of the OneOneTwo.com live sound department, there will be two VHF radio microphone kits to clear. Some might regard these items as being somewhat archaic, but Sennheiser are the Rolls Royce of microphone manufacturers and even the oldest and most budget orientated models will perform better than a great deal of inexpensive modern equipment from certain parts of the World.

For Sale - Gemini P600 P.A. Amplifiers - £49 each

I pulled these amplifiers out of a school p.a. system were they had done about 8 years of constant, if somewhat gentle service. The school had complained that they were becoming noisy in use, read on and you will find out why. For speed, economic and reliability reasons I installed new Samson amplifiers in the school and put these in the workshop as a summer project.
On inspection they were very dusty inside and the bearings had gone on the cooling fans, making them emit a banshee like wail. I thoroughly cleaned them out with a vacuum cleaner and all errant fans were replaced with computer fans of the same size.
They are now whisper quiet, even the attenuators are quiet, so they could be put to use in home studio or used in conferencing or as a standby amplifier for just about any anything requiring a modestly powered amp.

Gemini P600 - Home studio, conferencing or DJ use

My research would suggest that they can run 85 Watts into 8 Ohms. I used them on a few gigs to drive 10" and 12" vocalist monitor speakers and they worked admirably without overheating or clipping issues. But obviously they wouldn't be first choice for driving a mighty sub-bass system.
That said, most people who read this website are pretty smart and know their stuff, so I shouldn't need to point out that the rating of 85 Watts, is a true R.M.S. value that can be delivered for hours on end without overheating or distortion and not so called "Chinese Watts", which are peak values only possible for milliseconds.
As you can probably guess I am getting very tired of reading adverts on eBay and elsewhere claiming power outputs of 10Kw from a 2U high amplifier fitted with a domestic 13 Amp plug. If you do the math you will soon realise that if such claims were true, the unit would need to be fitted with a cee-form plug and need to be fed off an industrial 63 Amp 3 phase power distribution board.

Gemini P600 - 85 Watts of true, undistorted, R.M.S. power

The overall package is 4U tall, but shallow, quite the inverse of modern designs and the weight is around 10 Kg. The front panel has an On/Off switch with power indication, there are two large volume control knobs and selectors allowing you to run two sets of speakers independently or simultaneously. The rear panel has 1/4" balanced input jacks or phono unbalanced input jacks. Output is via push terminals. Should it be of use, I have a selection of 19" output panels available for additional cost, sorry I am not a charity.

Gemini P600 - run two sets of speakers independently or simultaneously

If your interest is technical in nature, you can find an overview with the specification sheet here

I have priced these to sell at £49 each, there have been some similar models that I've seen sold on eBay for less, but they were all in ropey looking condition and not cleaned and checked over like these particular units. There are no issues with noise or performance, but do bear in mind that the componentry will be the best part of 25 years old, they will all be good quality components, but even the best capacitors can go out of specification over time.

Feel free to collect, or I can arrange courier delivery within the UK mainland for just £10. Exceptions apply to certain areas; such as the Highlands and Islands and may be subject to surcharges.
